Who We Are
The A. Louis Scarmolin Trust is a non-profit Trust (V/A DTD 9-23-63) whose mission is to promote the music of the composer Anthony Louis Scarmolin (1890-1969).
Scarmolin, born in Italy, came to the United States in 1900 with his family, settled in New Jersey, and spent his life as a professional musician, teaching music in the public schools of Hudson County. He began composing in his teens and continued until his death, writing hundreds of pedagogical works, pieces of salon music and classical concert pieces, including three symphonies and numerous other orchestral works, eight operas and a large body of chamber music and music for solo piano.
The Trust was established by Scarmolin in 1963 and took effect after his death in 1969. It was administered by Scarmolin’s widow Aida until her death in 1989 and thereafter by John Hamel and John Sichel.
The Scarmolin Trust offers a limited number of small grants to organizations interested in performing, publishing or recording Scarmolin’s music. Since 1989 it has helped fund performances both in the United States and Europe, and five CD’s on the New World, Centaur and Naxos/Marco Polo labels. If you have interest in our grant program, please feel free to contact us at the address below.
